TRT and Fertility Planning in Abu Dhabi

Testosterone treatment can suppress sperm production, sometimes to zero. If you want children now or in the future, discuss this before starting TRT. Dr. Juan Uría offers assessment of low testosterone and male fertility in Abu Dhabi, including a review when sperm counts fall during treatment.

A normal testosterone blood level while taking TRT does not show whether sperm production is preserved. Hormone assessment and semen analysis answer different questions.

What the assessment involves

Bring hormone and semen results from before and during treatment, if available.

Treatment

01

Treatment depends on the cause of low testosterone and your fertility goals. Specialist-managed options may stimulate your own hormone production where suitable, rather than supplying external testosterone. Some uses are off-label and require monitoring.

02

If already on TRT, arrange a supervised fertility plan with your prescriber. Recovery is variable and may take many months or longer; neither stopping testosterone nor adding hCG guarantees sperm recovery. Follow-up semen tests guide decisions.

Common questions

01Can I start TRT while trying for a baby?

External testosterone is generally avoided when trying to conceive because it suppresses sperm production. Discuss an alternative plan before treatment.

02Does adding hCG guarantee fertility?

No. hCG has specific indications, and hormone levels alone cannot confirm fertility. Its use must be individualized and followed with semen testing.

03Does a low FSH during TRT prove permanent infertility?

No. TRT can suppress pituitary signals. A semen analysis and clinical review are needed; FSH alone cannot establish sperm count or future recovery.

04Is TRT reliable contraception?

No. Suppression is unpredictable, so pregnancy can still occur. Use an established contraceptive method if pregnancy is not desired.
